Who we are.
The New Jersey Antimonopoly Coalition is a nonprofit advocacy organization dedicated to promoting fair competition and economic democracy in the Garden State. We research how concentrated corporate power harms New Jersey consumers, workers, and small businesses — and we advocate for state-level solutions.
We launched because the federal government has retreated from meaningful antitrust enforcement, and because New Jersey has the legal tools, the policy infrastructure, and the political moment to act — and we’re here to help make that happen.
Why this. Why now.
Monopoly power isn’t an abstract economic concept. It shows up in your grocery bill, your health insurance premium, your utility statement, your employment contract, and the apps you use every day.
When companies face no real competition, prices go up and wages go down. When industries consolidate, the workers and consumers who depended on competition to keep firms honest get left with no alternatives and no recourse. When politicians are captured by the industries they’re supposed to regulate, nothing changes.
New Jersey deserves markets that work for everyone — not just the biggest players. That’s what antimonopoly means.
How we work.
Policy research & analysis
For each issue area, we produce a detailed issue brief documenting the problem in Jersey terms, reviewing what other states have done, and proposing specific state-level remedies — including model legislation that can be introduced in the NJ Legislature. We adapt the best national research for the New Jersey context and make it accessible to policymakers, advocates, and the public.
Education & outreach
Policy change requires a public conversation. We communicate through our website, social media, and media outreach — translating technical competition policy into plain language that resonates with legislators, press, and the communities most affected. We’re building a constituency for fair markets in New Jersey.
Coalition & advocacy
No organization changes policy alone. We coordinate with aligned state organizations, connect with national research partners, engage friendly legislators in the NJ Senate and Assembly, and build the multi-stakeholder coalition that turns research and public pressure into legislative action.
What we’re doing right now.
We’re focused on issue areas where corporate consolidation harms New Jersey, including surveillance pricing, junk fees, big tech, noncompete agreements, healthcare and PBMs, and utilities.
